Design and Technology

Design and Technology is a central part of our rapidly changing world. It is a subject, which nurtures and inspires creativity, imagination and innovation, drawing relevance from the world around us.

At Bridge Junior School we aim to equip children with a range of skills and knowledge in a variety of contexts including design, textiles, structures, mechanisms, electrical control and food. All our projects involve designing and making functional products that solve real problems within a variety of situations.

We follow the new National Curriculum 2014 and also take advice and guidance from the Design and Technology Association (DATA).

Our D&T projects are built into our Connected Curriculum topics and follow the current theme. Lessons are broken down into:-

  1. Activities which involve investigating and evaluating existing products.
  2. Focused practical tasks in which children develop particular aspects of knowledge and skills.
  3. Designing and making activities in which children design and make ‘something’ for ‘somebody’ for ‘some purpose.’
  4. Evaluation

Who knows, we could have the next innovative and enterprising designer among us!
